How to Give Your Infographic Wings: 7 Top Tips for Boosting Your Reach

I’ve spent hours creating an amazing infographic only to learn that it goes on a website that no-one sees. As a designer, I want to know if my infographic will resonate with the intended audience. That's where distribution and promotion come in. Here are some essential tips to incorporate into your wider marketing strategy and help you maximize your infographic’s impact:

1. Share it on social media

Don’t just share your infographic once and forget about it. Share it multiple times on different social media platforms, and make sure to include relevant hashtags and tags to increase visibility. According to HubSpot, brands that post 1-2 infographics per day on social media see 12% higher growth in traffic than those who don’t.

2. Submit it to infographic directories

Infographic directories like Visual.ly and Infographic Journal can be a great way to get your design in front of a wider audience. Not only do they showcase high-quality infographics, but they also provide valuable backlinks to your website, which can boost your SEO efforts. More directories include Infographics Showcase, Daily Infographic, Cool Infographics, Infographic Design Team, Infographic Bee, Infographic Plaza, Infographic Database and Submit Infographics. Remember, the success of your infographic also depends on its quality, relevance and appeal.

3. Reach out to influencers and bloggers

Identify influencers and bloggers in your niche who might be interested in your infographic. Offer to share your design with them and ask if they'd be willing to feature it on their website or social media channels. If they do, you could see a significant increase in traffic and engagement. For example, when marketing agency Digital Third Coast created an infographic about the history of online advertising, they reached out to industry influencers and earned over 50 backlinks and thousands of social shares.

4. Collaborate with other brands

Partnering with other brands can help you reach a wider audience and add credibility to your design. For example, when software company HubSpot created an infographic about the state of inbound marketing, they partnered with marketing automation company Marketo to co-promote the design. This resulted in over 9,000 social shares and 3,000 website visits.

5. Create a landing page for your infographic

Don't just share your infographic on social media and hope for the best. Create a dedicated landing page on your website where visitors can view the infographic, learn more about the topic and even download a high-resolution version. This will not only make it easier for people to share your infographic, but it will also give you valuable insights into how people are interacting with your design.

6. Use paid promotion

Organic promotion can be effective, but it's often worth investing in paid promotion as well. Consider running Facebook or Instagram ads targeted at your ideal audience or using a service like Outbrain to promote your infographic on other websites. According to a study by Aberdeen, companies that use paid promotion for their infographics see an average of 82% more views and 63% more shares than those who rely on organic promotion alone.

7. Leverage email marketing

If you have an email list, use it to promote your infographic. Send out a dedicated email showcasing the design or include it as part of a larger newsletter. Just make sure to optimize your email design for maximum impact. According to research by Campaign Monitor, emails with infographics see an average click-through rate of 2.8%, compared to just 0.5% for emails without visuals.

You can help your infographic reach a wider audience and make a bigger impact just remember to be proactive and strategic in your promotion efforts. With the right approach, your infographic can become a valuable asset that drives traffic, engagement and brand awareness.
